Four Braids crossed

I love braids!!

This one is really fun. I think that the ribbons could stand to be a little longer though.

* I parted her hair down the middle and then across so it was in four sections.
* I did four ponytails in back. One set pretty high.
* I braided each ponytail just long enough so it reaches the top of the ponytail diagonal from it.
* I crossed the bottom ones first up to the top ones....and used my Jr. TopsyTail to pull them through! You can easily just do it though.
* Then I crossed the top ones to the bottom ones.
* I flat ironed the ends to add a little umph. You could also curl them.
* Added ribbons.
* And...dh noticed that I should have crossed the top right one before I crossed the top left one, so it looks more woven. He's right! Now, this is going to bug me...O'well!

* This took about 10 minutes.

TopsyTail Winner is.......

Number 218, and that is...

Oh....and what the heck, a second winner is Number 141, and that is...

So if you guys could e-mail me your info, I will get these in the mail no later than Friday.

I have to give a shout out Thank You to Blackeyedsue @ She Does Hair/Hair Today (which is it anyway?) and to Jen @ Girly Dos, and to Princess Charmed mom @ Princess Charmed Hair and also to The Story of a Princess and her Hair. You guys are wonderful and I sure appreciate your shout outs, I want to be you! If it weren't for you I wouldn't have had half as many comments. Also, a shout out to Because I was taught to share a great blog that lets you know of contests, sales, giveaways etc. each day, be sure to check it out.

Okay, I HAVE to tell you, I had so much fun reading all of you comments. I laughed at a lot of them because you would talk about how you had one back in Jr. High or High School. I remember when I got mine as well, my mom got it for me via an infomercial. I was in the 8th grade...I think... I was so excited to use it, I still have the same one, and I did use it on my own hair until to about 2 years ago when I cut it all off for "Locks of Love." And, no we are not old!! Also, I laughed at the fact that some of you actually tried to make one...because I too tried, without success!

I can't remember if it was Piper or my little boy, Teague, that bit the pointy end off of it, but I still used it up until recently when I got a new one that includes the Jr. which is really great for the little bugs and for pulling the end of braided ponies through ponytail holders and stuff.

Now, to answer some questions:

They still make them?
As far as I know, they do not make them anymore, but there are a few people/companies that still sell them.

For real all we have to do is leave a comment?
Yep, for real that's all you have to do. And that is all you will ever had to do for my giveaways!

But I'm obsessed...what can I say?
I too am obsessed, but it's a healthy obsession...I think.

Very cool--does it come with lessons?
It does come with a little booklet with instructions.

Do you do a giveaway every Wednesday?
Not every Wednesday, but when I do them, it will be on a Wednesday.

Where did you get one?
E-bay.

I have so many pictures of Piper's hairdos in a folder on my desktop, so make sure you keep checking back. Also, I will be doing more "Giveaway Wednesdays," with more great prizes...maybe even more TopsyTails(?)

Thanks again to all of you!

Wednesday Giveaway! ALL DONE!!

I know, I know, it's only Tuesday, but I thought I would give an extra day to post a comment for those of you that don't check the blog everyday.

I know you've been wondering What the give away might be....and I know some of you have been hoping that it will be a.........

TOPSYTAIL

Well, it is!

Remember only one comment per person. Commenting will be discontinued at 8:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time on Wednesday July 30, 2008. Again, I will use random.org to determine who the winner is. I will announce the winner in the morning (remember morning is anytime before noon) Thursday July 31, 2008.

This TopsyTail is great because it also comes with the TopsyTail jr.. The jr. is great for the little bugs. I have labeled all of the hairdo's that we use the TopsyTail for.

Braided Headbands

These are some of the pictures that have been in a folder on my desktop for awhile now, so here we go.

I decided to do this in one post, even though there are two styles, because they are the same thing, only one has two braids and one has four. Also, Piper has on the same outfit both times. I didn't intend for this to happen. These hairdo's were done about a week and a half apart.

*I use her natural part, on her right side, for this style. I am sure it would look cute with the part down the middle as well.
*At the back of the original part, I part down on both sides and secure all of the remaining hair in a ponytail holder so it doesn't get in the way.
* Then I french braid, underneath so the braid lays on top. I like how it makes it look kind of like a headband.
*I braid all the way to the end of the hair and secure it with a rubber band, then I secure both braids in the back underneath her hair that was left down.

*This took about 10 minutes

*For 4 braids it took about 15 minutes

This is what it looks like with 4 braids

Wrap around ponytail

I have seen this ponytail on a couple other blogs. I think "The mom" on "Babes in Hairland" calls this "The Madonna ponytail."

There are a variety of ways to do this pony. I've seen moms put all but a little bit of the hair at the bottom into the pony then wrap the hair that was left out around the pony and secure it with either hair pins or bobby pins. I've seen moms put all of the hair in the pony then get some hair from the bottom of the pony and wrap in around and secure it.

The second is what I did here. But instead of securing it with hair pins around the pony, I used the good old topsytail to pull it through after I wrapped it around and then secured the last inch or so of hair with a bobby pin underneath the pony.

Depending on what kind of day we will be having determines how I will do this style. If it is a busy day, I will do the hair pins. This day it was ballet, so I did it quickly with the topsytail.

This hairdo takes 2-3 minutes with Hair pins. it takes about 1-2 minutes with the topsytail.

3 mini twists

If I had my way on this hairdo, I would have taken a little more time to make sure that they all made it to the center of her head. However, Piper was a little impatient this day so it is a little crooked, but still cute. Click here so you can know how to do the twists.

* I used Piper's natural part for this style. (on her right side)
* I parted down each side from the back of the original part.
* I did the twist on the right side and secured it with a rubber band.
* I divided her left side into two sections and twisted each one of them, securing them with rubber bands.
* When all three were completed I gathered them into one ponytail and secured with a rubber band and added the bow.

* This took about ten minutes.

We got a lot of compliments on this one.

Bug Pyramid

This is another one that I use the topsytail on, but you can do it without, click here for a great tutorial by blackeyedsue on how to do a "knot" or as we call it a "bug."

*I part her hair down the middle into two sections. (You will notice that I didn't part far enough back on this day, Piper's cowlick on her left side shows.)
*Then from the end of the part, I part down the sides, but not all the way, I left some hair down on either side. I stopped about an inch and a half above her ears.
*Of course, I put all of the remaining hair in a ponytail holder so it wouldn't get in the way.
*For some reason, I always start on her right side. I started with the top section and parted it about an inch down from the original center part, then into three sections.
*I put each of the three sections in a rubber band and did a bug.
*On the next section, again I went down about an inch from the second part and then divided it into only two sections. I included half of the middle bug and the entire left or right bug in the next two pony's, then turned them into bugs.
*On the final section, I included both bugs from the middle section into the final pony and then turned it into a bug.
*I then repeated everything on her right side.
This took about 15 minutes.

Tuck and Roll

This one was done before the haircut. She named it the "Tuck and Roll" because I tucked it under and it rolled out. I used the topsytail on this, only instead of putting the topsytail through the top of the ponytail, I did it through the bottom. You can totally do it without the topsytail. It's just a "knot" or a "bug" with all of the hair instead of just a little hair. click here for a tutorial by Babes in Hairland. I thought this looked so pretty. I curled it a little bit. I decided that I liked it better without the flower.

Double Criss Cross

This hairdo is called "The Lattice" on She does Hair. Some of our names are a little silly, but remember, Piper names them.

I have always loved this, but Piper's hair is too thick for the little rubber bands, and it looks silly with big ponytail holders, so I thought that I would just do the top half of her hair in two sections and do the bottom in messy ponytails. This was the fourth of July hairdo! I bet that Trash ties would work great for this hairdo for thicker hair.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. If you go to my family site and read my Utah Art's Festival post, you will see why I haven't posted in awhile.

Also, I have a bunch of hairstyles in a folder on my desktop labeled "piper's hair." I have noticed that some of the other hairdo sites have some of the same hairdo's posted, so I have been a little reluctant to post them. However, I think I am going to because we all learn from each other right? So keep checking!

Oh, and I will be doing tutorials....I promise.

And the winner is........

Blogger Tonya said...

I love your blog! I love finding new hairstyles for my 6 year old daughter. Bows are always a plus!! (I was not gifted in the bow making department either!)

July 2, 2008 11:29 AM

Tonya, could you please e-mail me? Check my profile.

Everyone, thank you so much for commenting. This was really fun for me, and I can't wait to do another giveaway!

My friend Amber now has a blog dedicated to Brynn's Bows and Blossoms. It will also always have a link here on the blog.

Also, yes...Piper's hair has been cut. I really tried to talk her into not "wanting" so much cut off, but Piper is a little bit stubborn (gee, I wonder where she gets that from). Her reasoning was..."I really want to see what it feels like to have shorter hair." Needless to say, she got it cut. And, it looks beautiful and healthy and it is still long enough to do stuff with. And, most importantly, she LOVES it, and so do I.

However, it is going to be a little hard for me to do some of our old standbys. I also know that Piper's hair grows very fast and it will be long again in a couple of months. Yes...I did cry, but I didn't let Piper see me cry, I wouldn't want her to feel bad or guilty for something as silly as getting her haircut.

Our "ponytail" posts may dwindle because her ponytail isn't as long anymore, but we did a cute one today, and I loved it. I will still be able to do A LOT of great things.

Before the haircut. Sunday with a simple "bug" for church.

During the haircut. (My cousin Melanie, she is absolutely FABULOUS!)

After the haircut. Doesn't it look so healthy and beautiful?

BY THE WAY...What in the world are all you ladies doing up in the middle of the night?

Wednesday Giveaway!

Are you all so excited? My friend Amber made these bows and flowers just for this giveaway. I was definitely not blessed in the bow making area, trust me, I've tried with no avail. Amber makes beautiful bows.

So, start commenting. Commenting will be discontinued at 8:00 p.m. I will announce a winner tomorrow morning - Thursday July 3. And morning is really anytime before noon! (sometimes it's hard to get up and get going when you have nothing to do!)

I will be selecting a random commenter through random.org.

I'm not sure when the next giveaway will be, but it will be on a Wednesday, and I am VERY excited about it!

By the way, you may all have a heart attack when you see my next post. Just a hint...I wasn't expecting it to be so short.
