This one is pretty much the same as this one, but it isn't braided. And since it isn't braided, I use a different hair pin. But I only use one (the initial pin down) since the bun is so low, and the hair pin is so big, I don't want to hurt her head. But, I use two more little ones to make sure it stays.
note: I also use these hairpins when we do a regular bun on the back of her head for ballet, weather it is braided or not. They really do make the perfect bun. I got them at a dance wear shop.
These are hairpins:
These are bobby pins. I've had some people ask the difference:
I twist the ponytail while I am wrapping it around the ponytail holder, when I get it wrapped all the way around I use the one big hair pin in the area where the most hair is (this will probably hold it, but...) then I make sure it is completely secure with two little ones.
Today Piper wore her Mexican dress (our last name is Salazar!) and she said that she had seen Mexican dancers wear their hair in a low bun with a flower, so that is what we did.

Pretty Bun
These pictures are from awhile ago, but we do this hairdo often. I don't know what the tool is called that I use, but you can get it in the hair isle in the grocery store. It comes in two sizes. I use the small one because Piper's hair isn't crazy thick, however, if it were, I would use the big one.
I do a low ponytail with a side part. I put the tool on about half way down the ponytail and roll it up so hair is still poking out. Sometimes I curl the hair that is poking out, this day I didn't. Then we put on a pretty headband.

Low side bun
Piper wanted to wear her orange hat today, so we did a low hairdo that would allow her to wear it.
Whenever I do a low side ponytail or bun or anything, I do a side part. I braided the ponytail and wrapped it around and secured it with hairpins, and of course clipped a flower near the bun.
The bun was still a little high for the hat, but still looked cute.

Pigtail Buns
Pigtails on each side tied in a knot. I twist the hair before tying the knot. Then use hair pins (not bobby pins) to keep the buns in place. curl the hair hanging out and tie a ribbon around each bun. Ribbons work better than clips for this style.
